JAKARTA (MP) - PSSI (Persatuan Sepak Bola Seluruh Indonesia) has officially dismissed Shin Tae-yong as the head coach of the Indonesian national football team. The decision was announced by the chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, who emphasized the need for a leader capable of implementing better strategies, fostering stronger communication, and executing improved programs for the team.
Erick confirmed that Shin Tae-yong has received the dismissal letter after a meeting with Sumardji, and the next steps will involve further processes regarding their relationship moving forward.
Shin Tae-yong, who took over as head coach in 2020, has led the team to several significant achievements, including improving Indonesia's FIFA ranking from 174th to 127th, guiding the national team to the 16th round of the AFC Asian Cup for the first time in history, advancing the U-23 team to the semifinals of the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, and qualifying for the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone.
